Topsy Turvy Thursday - Too many things

So check this out as Randy Jackson would say.  I have so many photos to share today so there wouldn't be room for a lot of words.  Yesterday while I was out shopping, I found this for my daughter.  She will be so happy to know that I finally found these cookies.

Oreo Peanut Butter, Peanut Butter Fudge Cream, Fudge Cream, Double Stuff Heads or Tails, Golden Chocolate
Then I found more golf gloves that I figured my other girl friends would love to have.
Right hand glove, Left hand gloves (medium), Left hand gloves
While at my mother in law's home helping her with arranging family photos on frames,  I saw this really interesting item.  Check it out.
Complete set of Snow White and 7 dwarfs PEZ holder
Last night for supper, I did not get a chance to make dinner so Jeff, his mom and I went to Mountain Mike Pizza.  We all had our own personal mini pizza and I would like to share them with you.
Garlic Tuscan (mine),  Canadian with olives (mom) and Meat Combo (Jeff)
Opps, I almost forgot, last night I did my pedicure and this is my new addition to my nail art.

Have a terrific Thursday and thank you very much for stopping by.  Please come back soon.

Winging it Wednesday - What, Where, When, Why and Who

WHAT - is my blog about today?  Actually I don't have any idea where this is going but I don't want to miss a day so I will just have to wing. Initially I was going to do like a wanted post where I will list all the friends that I have no idea where they are now.  Then I realized that maybe they have not kept in touch because they actually don't know that I have moved.  So maybe I will do it anywhere and list them on my next topic.

WHERE are you? If you happen to read this blog, it will be nice to hear from you.  Just leave me a comment.  Susan from Texas, PJ from Ottawa/Whitehorse, Dipty from Ottawa, Bob from Windsor, Lynn from Niagara on the lake, Patti from Edmonton, Suzanne from Ottawa,  Sandy from Smiths Falls, Golda from Edmonton, and TL from Brampton.

WHEN was the last time you spoke to your family?  I just spoke to my daughter yesterday and I talk to my sister the day before.  It's amazing that some families does not even talk on a regular basic.  Some only speak when there's a family issue or tragedy.  I still find it difficult to understand how some family member takes days to return a phone call or will only call when they need something.  But of course in the end, family is family.

WHY can I not find the Oreo peanut butter?  My daughter has asked me to look for this and so far I have checked at least 3 stores and no OPB.  So the next time I am out and about, I will check out other stores because I want to find it for her and send asap.

WHO will win these competitions: American Idol, Dancing with Stars, the Masters, NBA and NHL? If you are following any of the above, I am sure you have your favorites and you are cheering for them to win.  Just to have an answer to this question and have fun with it, I am going to try to guess and pick my winners.

American Idol - Stefano Langone
Dancing with the Stars - Hines Ward
The Masters (next week in Augusta) - Trevor Immelman
NBA - Lakers  (just like their uniform colors)
NHL Stanley Cup - Sharks (of course I have to now that I live in San Jose)

Now that I have filled my page for the day, I hope that it made you wonder , think and say hmmm.

Timely Tuesday - Tuesday Morning

Tuesday Morning is a new store for me to check out.  From yesterdays blog, I mentioned that I will check the one near our area, so I did.  Annette was with me because we had volunteered in the morning and then had to mail a package for my sister and finally got to the store.

We headed straight to the section where all the golf stuff were.  At first I was disappointed because there were not enough variety to choose from.  I needed at least 5 different ones.  But I was going through some other items, I stumbled into a box of these funky golf gloves and I hit the jackpot.  We found 9 different designs and they were the left hand and size M, which were perfect. It was much cheaper than the first ones I found and by the time I got to the cashier, it was even discounted again.  So check out these ladies golf gloves that I will take for the girls.  I am sure they will be so happy to get them and of course we will have to take a photo of all of us wearing these designer gloves - Nicole Miller, thank you for designing amazing gloves.
Pink one is very girly, Brown one has golf designs, and White one has palm stree and monkeys.
During the weekend, we bought some new items for the home. One was a new shower head for our bathroom with 5 settings.  I love the one we have in our guest bathroom which is the rain shower head.  The other item is for our kitchen.  The faucet has started to leak a bit, it still not bad but we saw a good deal at Lowe's.  Jeff will have to wait until I am away before he installs it.  Another addition is something that Jeff bid during the silent auction at the golf tournament this past Saturday.  It's a security camera system for the house.  It's a great brand with 4 cameras, etc.

Maybe Monday - Multicolored Golf Gloves

You cannot believe what I found at a store called Tuesday Morning.  Last Saturday on our way home from the golf tournament, I saw an outlet just on the side of the of the highway, so I told Jeff to take the exit so we can check it out.  Anyway, it was not a big outlet and since I have never been to Tuesday Morning, I thought I would check it.  So here's what I have found.
This is a Nicole Miller Golf Glove for my friend Rose
This week I will try to go to another Tuesday Morning in our area to see if there are other colors and sizes.  I would like to get at least 5 more so each of the girls in our Arizona trip can have one.  The part that is so cute is that it comes in a tiny bag which is convenient for our golf bag.

Only 11 more sleeps before Arizona trip.  My niece suggested we check out the Talking Stick Resort and Casino located near Scottsdale.  I am sure all the girls will have no problem with this venue.

Soulful Sunday - A real sun day

Finally after days and days of cold, wet and rainy day - the sun has finally won and is shinning brightly trying to dry up everything that has been soaked by rain.  The grass is very green and the flowers are looking very alive. We might even get a chance to play tennis.  But Sunday is still a day when I only think of one thing and here's a poem I wrote to express what I really feel.

May we remember Gino as a friend, a brother, a nephew, a cousin and my son.

Simply Saturday - Chocolate and more

After checking my daughter's blog, it made me crave for chocolate.  There's three things that we currently have that I pick when I am in need of a quick fix.
Chocolate covered almond
Chocolates with different filling
Chocolate Glazed Donut Flavor coffee from the Donut House Collection
Fruits specially pineapple spears, strawberries and Chinese pears dipped in chocolate first then rolled in crushed nuts.

I have an order from my daughter to find her the Peanut Butter Oreo.  As of today's post, I still have not found it.  I have checked Safeway and Lucky's.  Next week I will have to check Target, Walmart, Nobhill and Lunardi's.

Fresh Friday - Flowers etc

The rain has not stopped since Wednesday and will continue for another couple of days.  The last time I went grocery shopping, I decided to buy some fresh flowers because we were having company. It is also one of those things that makes you feel good even if you bought it yourself.
I picked 3 types of flower with 3 different colors.  It was 3 for $12 and since I was only using small vases, I was able to make a total of 4 arrangements.  One for the dining room, living room, bathroom and for Gino's corner.

Yesterday I took my friend from Hong Kong shopping at Oakridge.  We checked out only a few stores: Target, Victoria Secret, Papaya, and Gap.  I took her to lunch at Sushi Boat and we only picked our favorite sushi pieces.  Since she loves dessert, I took her to PF Changs so she can taste the Banana Spring Roll with coconut ice cream and some fresh berries drizzled with caramel.  If you remembered from previous blog, I featured this particular dessert.

Truthful Thursday - Twenty Tasks

The list seems to keep getting longer and it is written everywhere that is why I am writing it on my blog so I can check it every now and again.  Maybe you might even remind me if I have actually completed any of it.  There are no time lines or deadlines for some but a couple for sure will have to be completed before I leave for my holidays.

Welcome Wednesday - Friend from Hong Kong

Tonight we are meeting the girlfriend of Tom (Jeff's friend) for the second time.  She currently resides in Hong Kong and they are in a long distance relationship.  It is a lot more distance than when Jeff and I were in our long distance relationship.  They have almost 14 hours time difference.  It seems to be working for them because they are still dating and we are very happy for them.  While Rita is visiting Tom, we all try to get together at least once for dinner.  Because they only see each other every six month, we try to let them spend as much time together and leave it up to them to let us know if they want to meet us for dinner or drinks.  So tonight we are doing the entertaining at our home.  I plan to make it simple but at the same time healthy but yummy.  For starter, I will serve bacon/cracker/brown sugar appies.  The main dish would be Maple Glazed Pork Roast with a side dish of Apricot/Pecan Wild Rice, yellow and green zucchini. I am debating still what I will make for dessert.  The last time they were here, I made creme caramel and Rita loved it.  After a few seconds of contemplating - it will be Applesauce/walnut cake. We still have a lot of the mini size Haagen Daz ice cream to go with it.  Then we get to serve our variety of choice coffee courtesy of Keurig.  We look forward to seeing both of them and hope they will enjoy their visit to Cranberry Portage.

Wondering who's American Idol contestant will be cut?  My guess is Naima.

Timely Tuesday - Totally Happy

Remember the expression: it doesn't take much to make me happy!  That is what Jeff and the rest of my family and friends say.  So today I have to share a few things that makes me happy.
  1. Finally, I pass the test in order to get the real and legal California Driver's Licence.
  2. Completed the task of making Bingo Cards (Loteria Tableta) and Flash Cards for my Spanish Class.  A total of 16 different bingo cards and a total of 72 flash cards.
  3. I have finished the St. Patrick's season for Angry Birds with 3 stars on all 15 levels.
  4. Jeff and I have signed up for the a Golf Tournament at La Cantenta GC in Valley Springs, California as part of the 4-some with the two other guys from his work.
  5. Having my morning coffee made by Keurig, my new favorite - The chocolate glazed donut, all coffee/no crumbs.
  6. There's only 17 more sleeps before my vacation with 6 great girlfriends from Canada.
  7. Being able to check my daughter's blog and find out what she has been up to and knowing she is doing just fine.
  8. The rain has not stopped but it's still bearable compared to freezing weather.
  9. Love the different radio stations that I have found on the Squeeze box.
  10. The probationary period has been concluded and Jeff has opted to let me stay.
A little celebration last night with a bottle of red wine - Cabernet sauvignon from the Sterling Vineyard, Napa Valley, CA.  Of course home made meal.

Maybe Monday - Music that makes my day

It's called the Squeeze Box, this is one of Jeff's toys that I am falling in love. Not sure if you are thinking of something else, but this is what plays our radio through the Internet. You can find almost any radio station in the world.  When I first arrived I was listening to a couple of my favorite Toronto Stations - 95.3 and 97.3  Lately, I found a couple of easy rock stations from Manila, Philippines - more music less commercials.  We also have listened to Jamaica and Dominican Republic stations.  So now you can see what I love this little toy - listening to music that brings back a lot of memories really makes my day.

Another late night for me because I wanted to finish all my Spanish Class homework/project that I promised to get it done by Tuesday.  My teacher is very appreciative of the fact that I am helping his class to have new things to help our class remember the words we were learning. This is one of the Loteria Cards that we will be using soon once it has been printed.

A new week and it will be another busy week with volunteer, Spanish Class, appointments as well as house chores, golf, & 0ther projects.  Retirement sure is not what I expected it to be.

Soulful Sunday - Sister and Friend

After being up late on Friday night for poker and then another late night last night - my friend Nikki and I went out for dinner and drinks, I thought of just sharing what I did yesterday.  I got a call from my sister and she was wondering if I would shop for a Trench coat for her and maybe a couple of outfits for work.  I was thinking that it was not a great day to be out and about as it was still raining.  Anyway, we ended up shopping and we asked my mother in law to come with us.  We went to Burlington Coat Factory because I am looking for a coat, right.  I took photos of the possibles and sent it to my sister.  Then I called her and she made her picked.
She picked, first jacket, first dress and both suits.
We ended up buying a sage color queen size sheets and a memory foam bath mat - very soft and feels nice on my feet.  Jeff started feeling hungry after all the shopping so we stopped by at HAWGS - seafood restaurant/bar.  I was craving for oysters which is what I ordered.
Fresh oysters with lemon juice, Tabasco, cocktail sauce and fresh grated horseradish
While still having a really late lunch, I got a text form Nikki asking if I am free to go for dinner and drinks. I agreed to go.  She picked me up and we went to PF Chang's at Oakridge Mall.  It was pouring so heavily so we use the VALET parking.  While waiting for our number, a couple of seats opened in the bar area.  We decided to take it and ordered our drinks.  I chose red (Cabernet Sauvignon Santa Julia from Argentina) and Nikki white (Pinot Grigio).  Our dinner came pretty quick.  We were very pleased with our dinner except our soup.  Something was missing at the end - that's right - we ordered our dessert as soon as the bartender said it was Banana Roll with coconut ice cream and fresh berries.  It was superscrumptious.

Today I really need to concentrate and work on my Spanish Tabletas (Bingo Cards) and Flash Cards.  While doing some last minute tweaking, I noticed that some are being cut off on print preview.  I promised my teacher that I will have it ready by Tuesday so that leaves me today and tomorrow to get everything done for final printing.  That's my whole weekend.

Simply Saturday - what weekend is all about

Last night we hosted our second poker night.  I made some Jamaican Jerk Wings, 2-bean chili  with corn and my dream bar for dessert.  There was  only 6 of us (4 guests). who played poker for at least 5 hours.  Everyone gets to deal and choose the type of poker that we would play.  Here are some of the names:  5 card draw, Omaha, High Chicago, Criss Cross, 7 card draw, pass the trash and my favorite NO PEEK (which we didn't play).  We start with $30.00 and you can buy in at anytime.  There is no ALL IN which is good because if you play conservatively, you can almost stay until the end.  Our ante is  $1.00 ,  When raising a bet, it only goes a max if 3 raises.  There are games when it's High/Low where you take a poker chip and if you cards high - you take two chips, low cards - one chip, and if you want to go either way - you take 3 chips.  So this is a split game but sometimes someone takes both high and low.  One of the guys won the most which was OK because he lost the other two times we played.  It was a fun night specially since the weather outside was stormy.  Thought I would share  what I made.

My Chili
As I mentioned on my other post I will be posting the last apron that I made yesterday.  Maybe I should not say last because actually I still have not made my very own.  I found some more fabrics from my collection so I will most likely make a couple or more but after I come back from my holidays.
This weekend is calling for lots of rain, or storm, and winds which means  we will be staying  in.  Jeff and I have some projects that needs some attention.  I would probably work on my next project which will be covers for our small kitchen appliances (blender, mixer,  and food processor) at the same time make a couple for my cousin.  Another project I need to complete are the flash cards and bingo cards for our Spanish Class.  Although they have been partially done, I will need to do a bit more tweaking to make sure the sizes are all the same and the words have been corrected.

Finished Friday - Aprons all done

Total aprons done since I began my marathon, 11 aprons.  The last couple of days I have been sewing and I have finally completed all and my craving for sewing and creating is over.  These are the rest of the apron.  It would be nice to receive some comments from my followers.

Actually I have one more apron to sew today so I will post it tomorrow.  As you can see, my photography is not as great as my sewing skills.  These aprons looks and feels really great and even Jeff admires them and tells me his favorite is still the Turquoise Hawaiian that I made for Barb which was the 4th one I made.

True Thursday - Happy St. Patrick's Day

Green Beer, Corned Beef, Cabbage, Irish Stew, Steak and Kidney Pie, and Irish Soda Bread.  What I like about this day is that everyone becomes Irish for the day.  You see a lot of greens and people who goes out are all so friendly and just have a great evening with all the people.
My mother in law gave me a gift for today's holiday.  She filled a St. Patrick's mug with a jade plant and added some flowers.  She also gave me a four leaf clover sun glasses.

As for my favorite Irish Blessing, this is the one I learned from a very dear friend of mine, John, who was born in Belfast, Ireland but now lives in Ottawa, Ontario.

May the road rise to meet you.
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face.
And rains fall soft upon your fields.
                                                      And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the hollow of His hand.

Whatever you decide to celebrate this holiday, remember the Irish toast:

Here's to a long life and a merry one
A quick death and an easy one
A pretty girl and an honest one
A cold beer and another one!

Will Wednesday - What will you?

When I started blogging, I mentioned to my sister and my daughter that I will be using the days of the week and pick a word to sort of rhyme or get my ideas for each days blog.  It has been 2 months and a half and I sometimes think maybe I will run out of words.  At the last minute, there's always something that pops up in my head.  Today we will continue with a similar idea from yesterday.  These questions will contain the word of the day - WILL.  Maybe you can play along if you have nothing to blog for tomorrow.

What will you do if you are lost? Stay in place in the hopes to be rescued.

What will you take if your house was on fire? My purse

What will you do when you find a bag of money? Check how much is in the bag!

What will you bring to a house party? Jello Shooters

What will you drink at pub? Honey brown beer or amber ale

What will you give to a homeless on the street? Some spare change

What will you say to someone who is annoying? Sorry, but you are a bit annoying

What will you cook to surprise your in laws? Crown Roast with apricot wild rice stuffing

What will you pick at a fruit farm? Blueberries

What will you test drive at a car dealership? Toyota Tundra Truck

Before going into my Spanish Class yesterday, I took a couple of photos of flowers that were in front of our class room.

Even with my busy schedule, I still try to take time and enjoy nature, even if it is just taking a picture so I can share them with you.

Maybe Monday - Angry Birds Addiction

Regular and Seasonal Angry Birds are getting to be so addictive that I forget to get my blog ready because I want to keep playing the game.  Yesterday, I downloaded the St. Patrick's Day version.  For those of you who are wondering what these games are about, you really have to check it out.  The seasonal version are so cute.  They have created a Christmas, Halloween, Valentines, and the latest St. Patrick's.  With the regular version, they have added a Cowboy version. Getting 3 stars is the goal for every level of every version.  Then there's the Golden Egg which sometimes hidden and hard to get.  When Gamble, our grandson was sleeping over, he wanted to play with it as well.  He is only 4 years old but does pretty good with the game.  So I have instructed him to play the ones with one or two stars and make them 3 stars.  He has done some of them and I was so excited and was screaming and I think I scared him.  I really don't mind him playing with my phone because he does a great job getting some extra stars.

I can't hardly wait for Easter to arrive as I am sure there will be an Easter version with these pigs wearing Easter bonnet and colorful Easter eggs exploding with chocolate and creams.

Sorry Sunday - Sharks lost

This is our tickets to the Sharks game last night.  It was my first time to see a shoot out live.  It was a great game but they lost on the shoot out.  For those real hockey fans, Bill McCreary is retiring and it was his last time the HP Pavilion.  We had some awesome seats.  I even painted my nails with the Sharks color, wore my Sharks golf shirts and wore my teal underwear - real Sharks fan, right.
I took some photos and would like to share them with you.  This is our first game for this year and I am glad we had a chance to my new team.
After the game, Jeff and I stopped at a bar on San Pedro Street called The Old Wagon Wheel,  I can't believe when we were carded,  I am guessing because this was more of a younger bar and they just want to make sure,  very funny, right.  Anyway, it was so packed but they had an outdoor part and since it was a beautiful night we stayed there and found a couple of empty seats.  They were great seats - we were people watching and we had fun.  After our one drink, we knew that the traffic has cleared and it was time to head home.

Simply Saturday - Sharks and Rangers

Before I talk about the Sharks, let me just share how Friday babysitting Gamble turn out.  He was dropped off by his mom around 1100 am.  He brought some cars and a new toy (a kite) still in a package.  He wanted to go to the park and play with the kite but I did not know how to assemble it and Jeff was busy.  So I had to entertain him or should I say distract him from asking me to take him to the park and fly his new kite.  We started with a bit of laundry.  I asked him to help me put the clothes from the washer to the dryer.  He got so excited when he saw some small clothes that he has never seen before.  Well, when I went shopping on Thursday, I found at least 3 new clothes and had to wash it prior to letting him wear it.  The first set was the Mr. Muscle (from the little Mr. and little Miss group). It had a muscle shirt, a short and a regular short sleeve T-shirt. The other outfit is a baseball shirt - buttoned in front with a double 00 as his number.  It will looked really cute with a pair of jeans.  Once we finished that, we did some writing and reading from his Sponge Bob note book.  He completed 2 pages and I let him choose a couple of stickers to be placed on the pages as his reward.  When the items in the dryer were done, I placed the table cloth and he arranged all the placemats on the table and we had lunch.  As a treat, I let him have one of the mini Haagen Daz ice cream - chocolate - only 1/3 of it and the rest to be saved for after dinner.  He was fine with that.  For part of the afternoon I sort of took a nap while he played Angry Birds.  He was sort of watching golf as well but it was funny when Jeff came out of his room to check on us, I was asleep and Gamble was sitting beside me playing Angry Birds.  Great babysitter.

Tonight the Sharks are at home and playing against the Rangers.  Since moving to San Jose, we have been watching most of the games, although sometimes we have to record it because there's other shows we want to see.  As for their standings, I am sure you avid hockey fans know that the Sharks in #3 in the western conference and the Rangers in #8 in the eastern conference.  Prior to coming to Canada, I did not know anything about hockey.  When I lived in Yellowknife in the mid 70's there were not that many TV channels but there was hockey coverage almost if not every night.  I guess that's when I decided that I might as well learn about the sports and enjoy watching it.  My choice of teams have changed through the years.  It started with the Bruins and then the NY Islanders - this was the team that I had the chance of meeting in person at the Edmonton International Airport.  I approached Chico Resch - goalie for their team.  He was very friendly and called all his teammates and introduced me to all of them.  I've always wondered if I kept the piece of paper where they had autographed it - would it be worth anything now? From then it was the Nordics, Avalanche and now the Sharks.  I hope we get a chance to see them at the HP Pavillion before the playoffs.

First Friday - list of first at my age

After all the years living in Canada, visiting the USA and travelling to many different countries, yesterday was the first time I was asked if I was a CAREGIVER.  I did not want to say it, but I was profiled.  I took my mother in law for breakfast at Le Boulanger.  While waiting for our food , my mother in law got up to get something, a Filipina dressed in scrubs, asked me very quietly at first and I did not hear her.  So she approach a little closer and ask if I was a caregiver.  I responded with a smile - Oh No.  Yesterday, after tennis and golf, again with my mother in law, we decided to buy a uniform (Scrubs) for me so that the next time I take her for her appointments, groceries or any other errands, I will be in uniform to fit the profile of caregiver.  If my former coworker George would get a chance to read this, he would be laughing his head off - inside joke.  Here's what my new scrubs look like.

Black pants and blouse scrubs
Another first for me is drinking CHAI LATTE.  While Percy was visiting us, we all went to Santana Row, we stopped by at a really nice coffee and treats shop.  I think it was called Cocola.  I did not want to drink coffee so I tried their Chat Latte.  I loved it.  So far I have tried it at Le Boulanger and at Peet's Coffee.  The one from Peet's is not as sweet.

If you recall those treats that I made for my tennis girlfriend, the DREAM BAR was a first.  I have never made it before.  When I saw the recipe at the back of the package, it sounded good but since there was no photo, I did not know how it will turn out, luckily, it was  really yummy and was sold with minutes.

On Tuesday night, it was my first time to use the BBQ.  I had to learn it step by step because I did not want to make a mistake and light myself on fire.  My teacher had the experience so the training went very well.  The chicken was tender and moist while the beef was cooked medium rare, exactly how I like it.

That's all for today, if I ever do another First, I am sure you will read it on my blog.

Truthful Thursday - Too Tired

Today is the 5th day of me not having my bounce.  It's not for lack of sleep, I don't think so anyway.  But even though I have lost my bounce, I still try to do my day to day activities.  Maybe I coming down with something but I don't have the symptoms of whatever it is. This is so confusing.  Sorry for complaining or did that sound like a whine.  Change of topic, please.

Last night I watch the American Idol - final 13.  The last time I watched it was when they had the 10 girls night. I was not impressed with the finalist.  The one that was looking like a young Diana Ross - sounded flat.  The one that sang a Shania song sounded very Karaoke.  Then Paul whose moves does not go with the song - Steven said he was a bit pitchy.  Pia is a maybe because she has the whole package.  James, I kinda like except for the earring. Haley does sort of Karaoke - Randy says it was boring.  The R. Kelly dude - they said he was so good - but there were parts when he was screaming - he was off.  Then comes Tia - young, pretty and has real potential - she could probably sing for Disney movies.  Stefano reminds me of Chachi from Happy Days - he could form a new boy band.  And from the Latin contingency - Karen - I think her song during the girl night where she mixed Spanish in her song was better.  Scotty surprised us, he did not look like he had that voice, but I could see him doing a tour with Carrie Underwood.  Final singer was Naima - Rhianna wanna be - no on my list. Now I have to asked Jeff to record the next show to see who gets voted out.

Tomorrow we will be looking after Gamble shortly after 1100 am, this means it will be a very long day as he is also sleeping over.  I hope to get a good sleep tonight because I will definitely need it.  Looking after a 4 year old boy who is very active and likes to play in the park and does not take a nap and stays up late - is not going to be easy but he is such a joy to have around.  I know that he looks forward to staying with us because he asks his mom all the time when he will be coming to Grandpa's too.
